A CULTURAL HISTORY OF THE TURKIC PEOPLES
Title of the Scientific Research Project: A Cultural History of The Turkic Peoples
Covered Periods: From the beginning to the early 20th century.
Topics: Material culture remnants, written sources, artworks, architectural structures, folk culture, oral literature, written literature, belief systems, scientists, cultural figures.
The content of the research to be conducted: The lives, works, and contributions of writers, poets, scientists, cultural and religious figures shaping Turkish culture across the Turkic world will be examined. An inventory and evaluation of tangible and intangible cultural assets, including historical, scientific, literary works, and artistic productions preserved in various global collections, will be conducted. Similarly, traditions and customs dating back to ancient Turks, along with ceremonial practices such as folk dances and musical assets, will be brought together and discussed. New cultural elements assimilated through Islam will be prominently included. The scope of this project encompasses all Turkish communities living within the borders of various Asian and European states, including the seven independent Turkish states (Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Northern Cyprus), whether they have autonomous status or not. Additionally, writings from related countries and communities, notably Hungary and Mongolia, will also be included.
Importance of the Project: This project will largely achieve demonstrating and scientifically documenting the role and contributions of Turkic peoples' culture in world civilization, thereby safeguarding it collectively within a single work.
Expected Outcome of the Project: It is envisaged to publish a book comprising 0 volumes. Initially, it will be published in Turkish and Uzbek. If there is a demand for publication in other Turkic dialects, it is hoped that the project owner and stakeholder institutions will gladly accommodate this. The work is expected to consist of about 200 sections. There is no problem or limit to increasing this number if necessary. We are awaiting article proposals from domain experts on the topic headings described above and detailed in the attached draft. Our project coordinator will consult with you on the suitability of your proposed titles or any adjustments needed, whether expanding or narrowing them down.
